Well, Card fans here is your Labor Day weekend special. After two frozen computers, one before I started this epic undertaking and another after I had figured the starting players salary per game, (no you will not see that data as it was lost after the second BIG FREEZE)
After screaming, scaring my dog Coco out of her mind, and minor MAJOR profanity, I carefully and with great reasoning decided not to redo that part.
Here are some of my own opinions and observations of the salaries of our Cards in comparison to the “labor” they produce. While it is my opinion that no athlete, musician or actor are worth what they are paid, in relation to the value they provide to our society, I will set that little argument over to the side for another day.
Most of our Cards are worth what they are paid. Several are tremendously overpaid as to the labor they provide the team and several are huge bargains.
Those that are overpaid in my opinion are:
Matt Holliday-$17 million per year. That’s $114,465 per hit, $204,819 per RBI, $217,949 per run and $708,333 per HR.
Kyle Loshe-$8.875 million per year. That’s $147,917 per inning, $986,111 per game and a cool $4,437,500 per win.
Brad Penny-$7.5 million per year. That’s $136,364 per inning, $625,000 per game and a nice round $2,500,000 per win.
Those that are bargains are:
Adam Wainwright -$4.65 million per year. That's $23,846 per inning, $166,071 per game, and a bargain $273,529 per win.
Colby Rasmus- 2nd year - $418,000. That's $4,400 per hit, $7,741 per RBI, $6,333 per run and a measly $22,o0o per HR.
Jaime Garcia-rookie-$400,000. That's $2,614 per inning, $15,385 per game and a Wal-Mart special of $30, 769 per win.
Jon Jay-rookie-$400,000. That's $5,634 per hit, $15,385 per RBI, $11,430 per run, and a cheapo $100,000 per HR.
Here is the salary information of our Cards. Thanks to the website Cot's Baseball Contracts for all the salary information.
